Subsequent Canvas
The sky is a blank, grey canvas,
and all I can think about
is the dry heat of the desert.
I want navy nights in an old pickup truck,
navigating dirt paths through ivy forests.
I want to get hopelessly lost in the middle
of a brown Scottish town during a
thunderstorm,
to wander through rainbow produce
stands in the middle of crowded New Delhi streets.
I want to bathe
in the lilac sunsets at the Reichenbach Falls.
I want to graze ancient architecture with feather-
light fingertips
against Egyptian blue skylines,
and watch from hole-in-the-wall bookstores,
as the golden streets of Paris slowly awaken.
I’ve got so many midnight-made plans
thumbtacked to an outdated
map of the world, and I can see it all
painted against the sky.
